I really liked the idea of doing everything from the creating to producing to mixing and mastering. I didn’t have the maturity to open myself up to others. I had a hard time starting out with collaborations. Months can literally go by without it.ĭoes your material feature any collaborations?
It feels like winning the lottery when you get a really good feeling about a track you just started. Most of the time the ideas aren’t that good but I like that randomness, it’s exciting. So I play around with sounds and textures I like until I get an idea. I have almost no idea where I’m going when I start a song. Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea? Imaging myself outside of the studio, living in someone else’s shoes and experiencing life in a different way
And so it was more like “okay this is what I’m doing now”. It got to a point where I actually did end up making a living out of it. Because it’s a really tough business and I just did it as a hobby for many years. I didn’t allow myself to think it was possible to make a living doing this. Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”? I’d been playing the piano and the guitar up until my teen years but it’s really creating my own material that sparked the magic for me. It still does feel a bit mad to be honest. It felt crazy as a kid to spend some time clicking on the family laptop and have your own track on itunes.
